Welcome to the VitaLife show!. I am doctor Janine Bowring and today's topic is all about Thyroid disease and Low Thyroid Function. So a lot of people do develop a low thyroid function is very common, I see it in a lot of my female patient especially. And they start to have symptoms of low energy perhaps headaches cold hands and feet they have difficulty keeping their body warm and difficulty losing weight and this is probably one of the most concerning things in way a lot of my patients come to seek out my advice. As a naturopathic doctor well the good news is that the thyroid can be treated naturally. One of the main reasons that the throid function declines or decreases is because a toxicity. All the toxins that filter through the blood do go through the thyroid and they can tend to get stuck there. Things such as heavy metal toxins, so whether that's mercury arsenic, aluminum we're all exposed to these heavy metals daily and it's one of the things that can really upset the normal functioning of the thyroid gland and just to let you know the thyroid it is located here at the front of the neck. So what can we do naturally? Well first and foremost I always suggest that a detoxification protocol that addresses heavy metal toxins is very important this should be done at least four times a year so whether you have a low thyroid function or not, as a preventative this is really important so actually formulated by the detox as a full body detox and also addressing the toxicity that may be in the thyroid because it does address the heavy metal toxins. It's a gentle detox you don't have to worry about having to run to the washroom or having any negative side effects from doing the Vitadetox and you're just taking two capsules twice a day better on an empty stomach but it doesn't really matter so I encourage you to look at Vitadetox at vitatree.com really great way to really boost that metabolism and get that thyroid working optimally and getting at the root cause as to why the thyroid function is low in the first place and it's often because of those heavy metal toxins. The other thing you can do to actually check your thyroid is to take your basal body temperature and what this means is taking your temperature first thing in the morning when you first wake up without moving so that means keeping a thermometer right beside your bed and putting it either under your arm or in your mouth first thing in the morning and checking what your basal body temperature is. Now if it tends to be lower than normal then you know that you're thyroid maybe not functioning optimally and be under active and all the more reason to do the Vita detox into really speed up your metabolism again from the root cause. The other thing in the diet you can do if you have an under active thyroid is to be sure to use a little bit of iodized salt. Iodine is the natural booster for the thyroid gland so it helps the metabolism in that way and a lot of people actually tend to be very iodine deficient because they're not using salt they're trying to be healthy and not using iodized salt in the diet, so even if you choose to use sea salt which is one of the things that we use in our house make sure that it's iodized so there's been a bit of iodine that's been added back into the sea salt to help with that thyroid function. again my name is doctor Janine Bowring, I thank you for joining me today.
