Dealing with bad breath -- Dr. Jim & Bob discuss halitosis -- Blue Shield of California

DR. JI i there, Dr. Jim here from Blue Shield of California. Let’s talk about Halitosis, which is the technical term for bad breath. BO ’m Bob. Don’t mind me. So Dave, if my friend has really bad breath that smells like a compost bin. What should my friend do? DR. JI n most cases, bad breath comes from bacterial accumulation between the teeth, and from the back of the tongue. – which can be kept under control with good oral hygiene, including daily flossing.. Otherwise, it may be faulty dental restorations, dental abscesses, and unclean dentures that are causing the foul odor. BO ell my friend brushes and flosses and it still smells like a beached whale in Mexico. DR. JI ow, that’s very specific. I suggest rinsing and gargling with an effective mouthwash, gently cleaning the back of the tongue, and decreasing your alcohol and coffee intake. BO t’s not my mouth. It’s my friends. DR. JI ll right. BO lso my friend was wondering if you could get him some prescription painkillers so he can extract his own tooth later. DR. JI H MY GOD. BOB. Go to a dentist.
