Shiatsu Massage Tips & Techniques ow to Use Shiatsu for TMJ

Shiatsu like acupuncture is an effective way to harmonize the body. Hi my name is Christina Bjergo and I'm a Shiatsu Japanese Practitioner. I'm going to speak a little bit about using Shiatsu for TMJ. So Shiatsu is a way to treat the energy of the body without using needles. Instead of insertion of metal instruments we use acupressure both at acupuncture points and also along the whole energy meridians of the body to restore balance and harmony. So for TMJ there is a few good points that you can use at home. At the face, kind of the jawline where it changes direction there is a muscle there that often gets very tight with TMJ. This a great one to add pressure to, sometimes you want to just push in where it is comfortable to help relax the muscles. Another option is to make small little circular movements to help relax that area. It feels very good and relaxing just doing this. Another point to use is a little higher up the upper jaw and if you push your teeth together the muscle usually sticks out. This is the point where you usually want to push in. After you relax bend the jaw and this one is a great one to apply pressure and sometimes a lot of deep pressure can be very helpful. Also with TMJ a lot of it comes about from tension in the neck so it is good to treat the neck as well so going in the back of the neck and following behind the ear until you fall into that big hole and the muscles there and just apply pressure at various locations there. It just feels good and you can do these points for about 30 seconds each and then repeat as needed. So these are just a few points of things that are easy to do that I hope you can practice at home as needed to help with any TMJ tension in the jaw.
