Whiplash from a car accident. Critical steps in settling your case.

Soft tissue injuries are very controversial. From a defendant's point of view, a lot of car insurance companies like to suggest whiplash injuries are irrelevant and often exaggerated by plaintiffs, and in some instances that may be correct. But in many many instances and with many clients I have seen we see 7-8 years after the accident someone still having symptoms. And in fact personally I had a car accident 14 years ago; not a severe accident, I suffered a whiplash injury. And today 14 years later I still have effects from that car accident. I still go to chiropractic care. So yes, the effects of whiplash can be severe. In many instances you will find over an acute period the symptoms seem to abate, they come to an end and you think it's better, but a few months later the symptoms get worse again. So it's very important for your own health point of view to consult a doctor, look at the injury, have an MRI scan, and get some sort of prognosis of what you can expect in the future. Often on the other hand many people have a whiplash injury and great it resolves itself, But be very careful thinking a whiplash will resolve itself after 2-3 months. Go to a doctor, get proper treatment, get proper expert advice in conjunction with your attorney before you settle any whiplash case to see that you don't suffer effects after you settle the case. I often say to clients, you have one bite of the cherry so make sure that bit is the proper bite. Don't have a bite of the cherry because you cannot come back to your attorney or the insurance company at a later date and say, hey I am a lot more injured than I thought I was. So when you do it, do it right the first time.
