John Todd Arnedt, PhD - Video Profile

Todd Arned hat I do at the sleep center is I see patients who have sleep disorders and mostly insomnia disorders but sometimes what we call circadian rhythm sleep disorders which are where people's internal clocks don't quite suit their behavior. And as a psychologist, one of the great things about being in sleep disorders is that we can apply non-medication psychological strategies to help these individuals with insomnia and with circadian rhythm sleep disorders and dramatically improve their quality of life. Over time, we've learned the major impact that sleep has on our health and functioning during the daytime and, you know, the best news I think is that we have some really good treatments available to help people with all kinds of sleep disorders, insomnia, sleep and breathing problems, parasomnias which are strange events that go on during the nighttime and with both medication and non-medication treatments, we can really make a difference in improving people's sleep at night and that has a huge impact on their ability to function like they want during the daytime. So for me, that's one of the most rewarding things about being in the field is just being able to provide these treatments to people and have a pretty dramatic effect over a pretty short period of time. A lot of these treatments are relatively time limited and so we can really improve people's health in a short period of time and it can be amazing the difference it makes, not only to people's lives but to their family's lives as well.
