
Hi, I'm Carmen Lynne, welcome to Expert Village. Today, we are talking about hypnosis. In this section, I'd like to tell you how hypnosis can help you with pain, particularly chronic physical pain. Say, for example, you have pain in your neck. You've had it for years, it is just kind of is always there. You take pain killers for it and nothing seems to work. Here is a technique that I like to use with my clients. First of all, obviously, you want to induce the hypnotic state and when you are feeling nice and relaxed, you want to form an image in your mind of an dial. The dial has numbers on it. Envision where dial is currently set. You think of the level of pain, as being somewhere between, one and ten. Ten is the absolute worst pain and one is being virtually pain-free. Envision where the dial is right now and in your mind you'll want to turn it down. What is happening while you're doing that, is that your are taking control of your body back. You are using your subconscious mind and you are using imagery to regain control of your body. In fact, if you know anything about the mind-body connection, you know, that our mind actually does control our body. It is just very difficult for us to be able to consciously allow our mind to control our body. What we are doing in hypnotherapy, is that we are doing it subconsciously. So, that is a little technique designed to help you with pain. Of course, if you were in a hypnotherapy session with me, we would go into that with more detail.
