People ask me does CBT for insomnia always work. Well of course the answer is 'no', nothing has a hundred percent success rate. But, all of the research that's being done to evaluate CBT for insomnia has consistently shown that it helps at least fifty to seventy percent of people significantly improve their sleep and that those improvements tend to be long-lasting. If it doesn't work we need to think carefully about whether we've got the right sleep disorder, whether or not you've been able to do what we ask, and sometimes there are other therapies that your general practitioner might want to try for your sleep.
