Depression Solution -- Raise Your Energy Levels by DepressionHero

Hi, it is Omar from DepressionHero.com and today I am at the Hoover Dam outside of Las Vegas in Nevada. So what is the connection between the Hoover Dam and Lake Mead and depression and you? For seven years this dam has provided power for Las Vegas, for Nevada and for a lot of California as well. Back here we have this huge body of water, comes down here and generates electricity. It generates power. The thing is, when I was depressed I just had no energy for anything. No energy. I could barely, you know. I would be on the couch and I would be clicking on the TV clicker and barely have enough energy to get up. I would spend the whole day, whole night there just doing nothing because I did not have the energy to think about things. One of the key things for depression is energy. You have got to get your energy back. The problem is that when you are depressed you are actually pushing down, you are depressing, you are suppressing, your emotions, your emotional feelings. You are spending a lot of energy just keeping those in check. By different ways I mean, as I have mentioned in another video with your personality, people react in different ways. The way that you do it, the way that you respond to depression is going to be unique to you and to your personality type. Just like you have a body of water back there, this is a body of water. Most of your body, your physical body, your brain, everything here, like 80 percent is water. And you are not managing it properly so you do not have a lot of energy. One of the things that is really, really important is, as soon as I wake up in the morning, let us say I have been asleep for 6-8 hours. For those six or eight hours I have not had anything to drink, so when I wake up I am actually dehydrated. I am thirsty. What a lot people do is they just go drink coffee. Coffee is a diuretic. You actually feel more thirsty. You have not actually replenished the water in your body. Part of this whole thing with depression is that it is a habit. It is a pattern of things that you do, pattern of things that you think, patterns of things that you feel that you keep doing repetitively and repetitively and repetitively, and it gives you those results that you have now. Which is that you are depressed. One of the ways that I was combating depression that I have learned is by learning new habits. These are all small habits but they make a huge difference. One of those things is (and this is your homework) every night before I go to bed, I get a glass of water, 500ml, that is like 8 or 10 ounces and I put it beside my bed. So when I wake up in the morning, the first thing I do is I reach for my water and I drink it. Just doing that small simple thing, actually replenishing my body with water, I get rehydrated and I get energy. Because my body is not screaming, it is not in a survival mode because it is actually getting replenished with water. So water is a really, really important thing and it is something so small that you think makes no impact in making a difference to you and your depression, but actually it makes a huge impact. Really your homework is before you go to bed, get a glass of water, put it next to your bed, when you wake up, drink it. That is it. And do that every day. If you forget it at night, wake up, go down to the kitchen, get a glass of water. It is not a big deal. The important thing is to actually do it and to keep yourself hydrated throughout the day. Because what that does is it helps you think more clearly. If you are not hydrated, if you are thirsty all the time you cannot think clearly. If you are drinking soda, that is from the sugar. It is going to make you thirstier, so that is not good either. Drink water. Drink 8 to 10 glasses of water a day. And that is your homework. Imagine that this Hoover Dam is here to inspire you. You are going to be taking these small, small steps. They are not difficult. They are very, very easy things to do. Just drinking a glass of water in the morning when you wake up and you will notice you have way more energy. You will be able to think more clearly. The thing is once you get over your depression and once you find a way to take a different action, you will find that things in your life will change in ways you can not even imagine. And you will become a positive force in the world. You will make a huge difference to other people, just like this dam is making a huge difference in many peoples lives just by providing power and keeping Vegas alive. If you have any questions, if you have any comments, let me know. Let me know just making this one small piece, one small difference in your life has affected you and I will see you in the next video.
