[music] This is the health museum in Cleveland, Ohio, where young visitors take part in interactive exhibits to learn more about how their body works. In the hall of exhibits about sensation there is a mind body kiosk where children discover how their thinking and feeling can change their body. Children place their hands on electrodes that monitor electrical resistance across sweat glands, and the discovery begins. It was my hope that when we developed the mind body kiosk that this would be something that would benefit children in the Ohio area but also something that might be used in schools and museums around the country and around the world. I also think that early training can be preventive for children possibly -for example- if we have very usable home based biofeedback setup, let's say children from a family in which hypertension is common might develop some sort of intervention early that might prevent hypertension as that child becomes older. I also think, it's very likely that we will be able to use telemetry, we're working on using very small telemetry devices that could go with a child to school, could be with a child at home, and could feed back to that child in a very acceptable, subtle way, as some physiologic change which the child can then change by using his or her self regulation capacity. In general pediatric practice, biofeedback equipment doesn't have to be high-tech. It can be as simple as giving a child a way to notice that they can change their skin temperature, focusing on the biofeedback card can be a way to intensify their focus of concentration, and it gives them some feedback on the validity of what they are doing. They really, by imaging their hand warming up they have really changed the temperature in their finger so that, imagining stuff really does change how my body acts. When I do this, when I'm doing it in my mind, is imagining different things, and making my hand feel different. Like one of the things I practice with is imaging that balloons are tied to my hand and that it's feeling changes because I am imagining that there are balloons tied to it, I use my brain to make my hand feel different. And if I practice that, since I can make my hand feel different I can probably make my head feel different, if I try. So that my migraines wont hurt me as much, or maybe gradually go away.
